Effective 3 October 2026.
This site, vinayakapoor.com, is run by me, Vinayak Kapoor, an individual based in New Delhi, India. This page explains what information the site collects, why, who else is involved, and what you can ask me to do about it. For anything on this page, write to [email protected].
The short version
- You can read everything on this site without giving me any personal information.
- If you subscribe, I store your email address and use it only to send you what you signed up for.
- The site shows advertising through Google AdSense, which uses cookies. You can turn personalised ads off.
- I do not sell your information, and I do not run my own analytics or tracking scripts.
- You can ask me to show, correct or delete what I hold about you, and I will do it.
What I collect and why
If you subscribe
When you enter your email address in a sign-up form, I store that address, the time you signed up, and which form you used. I use it to send you a welcome email and the updates you asked for, and for nothing else. The reason I am allowed to do this is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by emailing me. I remove unsubscribe requests within 48 hours.
If you email me
I keep your message and your address so I can reply and follow up. I do not add you to any mailing list because you wrote to me.
When you visit any page
Like every web server, mine records each request in a log: your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, the page you came from, and the browser you used. I use these logs to keep the site secure and working, which is my legitimate interest in running it. The logs are deleted automatically after 14 days.
What your browser stores
The site itself sets no cookies. It saves two small markers in your browser’s own storage so the sign-up prompt does not keep appearing: one that remembers the prompt was shown during your visit, and one that remembers you have subscribed. They stay in your browser and are not sent to me. You can clear them in your browser settings.
Advertising
This site uses Google AdSense to show ads. Here is what that involves:
- Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this site and to other sites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and to other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of personalised advertising from other participating vendors at aboutads.info.
- Google explains what it does with this data in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked for your choice before advertising cookies are set, and you can change that choice at any time from the privacy link shown with the consent message. If you decline, you may still see ads, but they are not based on your browsing.
Who else handles your information
I use a small number of services to run the site. Each one handles data on my behalf or under its own privacy policy:
- Cloudflare sits between you and my server to protect the site and speed it up. It processes your request, including your IP address, and may set a cookie needed for security. See the Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Oracle Cloud provides the server the site and the subscriber list are stored on.
- Google provides the email service I use to send messages to subscribers and to answer your emails, the advertising described above, and Search Console, which shows me how the site appears in search in aggregate and does not identify you. See the Google privacy policy.
I do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, and I do not share it with anyone outside this list unless the law requires me to.
Links to other sites
Articles, the jobs and internships pages, and the share buttons link to other websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which I do not control. The share buttons on this site are plain links: nothing is sent to LinkedIn, X or WhatsApp unless you click one.
Where your information goes
I am in India, and the services above may process information in other countries, including the United States. Where the law requires safeguards for such transfers, I rely on the ones those providers have put in place, such as standard contractual clauses.
How long I keep it
- Subscriber email addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them.
- Server logs: 14 days.
- Emails you send me: for as long as needed to deal with your request, and deleted on request.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask me to tell you what I hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it, and you can withdraw consent you gave earlier. Write to [email protected]. I answer within 48 hours where I can, and always within 30 days. I will not treat you differently for making a request.
- India. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to access, correct and erase your personal data, to nominate someone to exercise your rights, and to have a grievance addressed. I am the person responsible for grievances at the address above. If you are not satisfied with my answer, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
- European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland. Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR you also have the right to data portability, to restrict or object to processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. The legal bases I rely on are your consent, for the newsletter and for advertising cookies, and my legitimate interests, for security logs and for answering your messages.
- California and other US states. I do not sell personal information. Advertising partners may use cookies to show you ads based on your browsing, which some state laws call sharing. You can opt out with the advertising links above, and the site honours the choice you make there.
Children
This site is written for working adults and is not directed at anyone under 18. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has subscribed, tell me and I will delete the address.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, the server accepts traffic only through Cloudflare, and the subscriber list is stored where the public cannot reach it. No system is perfectly secure, so if I ever learn of a breach affecting your information I will tell you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
Changes to this page
If what the site does changes, I will update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects subscribers in a meaningful way, I will email you before it takes effect.
